Braids

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving!  We made the trek back up to Ohio to visit my family.  While we were there I made a point to drag my gorgeous sisters outside to take some photos (I literally had to drag this one out- although she turned into a little super model as soon as we were out there).  Originally I was taking them just for reference for illustrations, but I think that the photos turned out just lovely so I had to share what I have so far.

I think I'm partial to the color version, but there is also something about the black and white pic that I love.  Which do you prefer?

Are owls still trendy?

There was awhile where I had this big plan to start up an Etsy store and sell my prints...but yeah...that hasn't happened yet.

Anyway, here are a few illustrations that I came up with:

Are owls still trendy or just kitschy?  Or is there a difference?

I <3 matryoshka dolls.  I'll always have a special place in my heart for Russia...

I did this illustration initially to use as a logo for my Etsy shop.  Brendon and I came up with the name "Gatet," which is Catalan for "cat."  The shape of the cat is supposed to be a "G," but I'm not so sure I pulled it off.  :-/  Regardless, I still like how it turned out even if it doesn't resemble the letter "g."

A Charming Engagement Session in German Village

A few months ago I shot engagement photos for a couple in Columbus, Ohio's German Village.  It is one of my favorite parts of Columbus because it is just so darn charming.  The best part of it is that the Book Loft was so kind as to let us shoot some photos in their shop

A Little Newborn Photography...

So far I've only posted a few illustrations, but here is a little newborn photography for ya...

I really, and I mean really wish that I had saved the original files for this picture.  The next time I do this pose I will save them and show a before and after and put a tutorial together- I promise!  Everyone asks how I get a newborn to pose like this... The answer is, I don't!  It's two pictures put together.  One where the mother is supporting the baby's head, and another where she is holding the baby's arms together under her chin.  Baby safety should be a photographer's number one priority so DO NOT try to get this pose without using assistance from the mother and, of course, a little Photoshop magic.

Those Rotten Scoundrels

So this is an oldie, but a goodie.
Welcome to my little corner of the internet!  My name is Danelle Prestwich and I received my BFA in illustration at BYU-I back in 2008.  Although I LOVE to draw and paint, I also have a little knack for photography so you will find a mesh of sketches, paintings, and photographs on this blog.  Hopefully it's not too much, but life is just too short to settle down on any one medium.  :)
